Beijing Key Laboratory of Green Chemical Reaction Engineering and Technology, previously Fluidization Laboratory of Tsinghua University (FLOTU), was one of the first Key Laboratories of Beijing. It was established in 2001 on the foundations of the research activities of Professor Jin Yong's group since the 1980s. Professor Jin Yong was the founder and first director. Prof. Wei Fei, a Cheung Kong Scholar, is the present director.
Current research activities of the Laboratory are mainly in multiphase chemical reaction engineering, catalytic processes, and powder technology.
The Laboratory aims to be a leader in the areas of petrochemical engineering, clean fuels and chemicals, and nano-scale materials. It carried out fundamental research on and initiates technical innovations in gas-solid turbulent fluidization, short residence time fluidization, and moving bed reaction engineering. Research projects include the measurement of the hydrodynamic characteristics of dense multiphase flow, modeling of multiphase flow by computational fluid dynamics, development of green catalytic processing and catalytic processes, and the preparation and industrialization of nano-materials. Fundamental research is undertaken along with industrialization to form an integrated platform for the basic understanding of chemical and catalytic processes and its process development and engineering. A series of novel multiphase flow reactors are being developed, such as reactors that use partially turbulent fluidization, down flow fluidization, nano-agglomerate fluidization and fluidized slurry beds.

The faculty comprises eight professors and five associate professors, two of whom have been honored as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a Cheung Kong Scholar. Since the founding of the research group, it has successfully industrialized more than forty multiphase fluidization reactor systems, and received the following awards:
• Four National Science and Technology Awards
• More than ten Science and Technology Awards from provinces and ministries
• Over forty patents
The Laboratory has published more than 200 papers indexed in the SCI, and graduated over 60 Ph.D. students. Three of the Ph.D. graduates were given the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation award by the National Evaluation Institute of Degrees and Graduate Education.
